Is That An Elk Bugling Or Are You Just Happy To See Me...

And so it is hunting season again.

We have now had time, and mental health counseling, to get over the tags we did not draw.  There have been several grocery lists created, trips to the grocery, and coolers filled and marked.  All summer was spent shooting the bow in the back yard.   Just one last thing remains.  Bugling practice.

Practice in the morning, practice in the evening, practice at supper time.

Close your eyes and imagine 5 boys and one man at the point of so much excitement that it can not be contained.   Cow whistles mixed with bull elk grunts.   With your eyes still closed - it could have been that you were in the middle of a giant elk herd in the Big Horns or anywhere elk may reside.

Secretly - when they were all out of the house - I would practice too.  Patting myself on the back... of course, I thought I got pretty good at the song of the elk too.

So if your children do not have or know how to make elk calls, grunts, and whistles it is high time that you taught them.

Have a great hunt!   You can always use some more antlers.  (and skulls)
